For decades, it has been shaped by a singular obsession: reducing weight, sharpening every response and stripping away anything that might dilute the connection between car and driver. The new Emira 420 Sport embodies that philosophy in its purest form.

The most powerful, lightest and most aerodynamically accomplished Emira ever produced, this new flagship sits at the pinnacle of the range with a clear purpose: to bring the British sports car even closer to the intensity of the racetrack, while preserving the poise and usability that make it equally compelling on the road.

420 PS and Close to 300 km/h

At the heart of the Emira 420 Sport lies a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 420 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, engineered for faster shifts and a more immediate response under acceleration. The result is a powertrain that feels entirely in keeping with the 420 Sport’s character: precise, responsive and focused on delivering performance with immediacy rather than excess.

The result is suitably compelling: 0–100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 186 mph, approximately 299 km/h. Impressive figures, certainly, but they tell only part of the story. The true sophistication of the Emira 420 Sport lies elsewhere: in the delicate interplay between weight, chassis precision and aerodynamic performance. It is here, beyond the headline numbers, that Lotus reveals the depth of its engineering philosophy.

25 kg Lighter, 25 kg More Downforce

With the Lightweight Handling Pack, the Emira 420 Sport is 25 kg lighter than the Emira Turbo, while generating an additional 25 kg of aerodynamic downforce.

To achieve this, Lotus draws on a carefully curated selection of competition-inspired materials and technology, including a titanium exhaust system, lithium-ion battery, carbon-fibre components and two-way adjustable Multimatic dampers. The package also includes the dedicated Lotus Track Performance app, allowing drivers to measure and record lap times.

It is a clear statement of intent: the Emira 420 Sport may be perfectly at home on the world’s most captivating roads, but the racetrack is unmistakably part of its DNA.

Aerodynamics Sculpted by Purpose

The evolution is equally evident in the bodywork. A new front splitter, redesigned front air intakes, extended side sills, larger air inlets, a rear spoiler and a louvred tailgate give the Emira 420 Sport a more assertive, purposeful presence. Yet every detail has been shaped by function rather than aesthetics alone. Lotus reports a 15% increase in airflow to the outer radiators, 14% more to the central radiator and a 10% improvement in brake cooling, while airflow through the exhaust valve rises by 30%. The objective is clear: to deliver greater consistency when the car is pushed to its limits, particularly on track. And beneath this pursuit of aerodynamic efficiency lies a subtle nod to Lotus heritage, with selected design cues recalling one of Hethel’s most iconic creations: the Esprit Turbo.

The Chassis Comes First

Ride height has been lowered by 5 mm, suspension settings have been further refined and high-performance tyres provide an even greater degree of control. Yet the 420 Sport remains true to the fundamentals that define the Emira’s character: a bonded aluminium chassis, double-wishbone suspension and electro-hydraulic power steering. For Lotus, the priority remains clear: steering should communicate the road with precision, preserving a direct and nuanced connection between driver and machine rather than filtering it through layers of artificial assistance. The same philosophy carries through to the cockpit. 12-way adjustable seats combine with a distinctly driver-focused architecture, while new carbon-fibre gearshift paddles bring an additional sense of occasion behind the wheel. Their revised haptic feedback further sharpens the interaction, making every shift feel more immediate and engaging.

Carbon Fibre and Tangelo Orange

Exclusivity also comes through personalisation. An optional Carbon Fibre Exterior Pack brings a more distinctive edge to the Emira 420 Sport, with carbon-fibre elements extending to the front splitter, side sills, wheel-arch vents, side air intakes, rear spoiler and diffuser surround. Nine wheel designs and finishes are available, including new 20-inch, 15-spoke forged alloy wheels finished in Satin Dark Grey. The palette is equally expressive, with 16 exterior colours to choose from. Most striking of all is Tangelo Orange, a vivid shade exclusive to the Emira 420 Sport that pays homage to Lotus’ long-standing tradition of iconic orange finishes. Inside, the sense of individuality continues with two optional treatments. The Carbon Fibre Pack introduces a series of carefully considered carbon-fibre details, while the Hand Painted Pack carries Tangelo Orange into the cabin, adding vibrant accents to the centre console, steering wheel, gear selector and air-vent surrounds.

And Now, the Emira Opens Up to the Sky

Lotus has one final surprise in store. For the first time, the Emira can be specified with a removable tinted-glass roof panel, bringing an entirely new dimension to the driving experience.

Inspired by the legendary Esprit, the panel has been designed for effortless removal and can be neatly stowed behind the seats in a dedicated protective bag. In moments, the Emira transforms from an intimate coupé into a more open, immersive experience, all without compromising its dynamic performance, according to Lotus. And the pleasure is not reserved for the 420 Sport alone: the removable roof is now available across the entire Emira range.

A Sports Car for Those Who Still Love to Drive

Priced from €129,900 in Europe, the Emira 420 Sport is available to order now, with first customer deliveries scheduled from August 2026. With the 420 Sport, Lotus is not seeking to reinvent the sports car. Instead, the British marque is refining a philosophy it has mastered over decades. There is more power, certainly, but the real story lies in less weight, greater downforce, a sharper chassis and engineering conceived to create a more intimate dialogue between driver and machine.
